Currency in Ghana - Cedis
Ghana’s official currency is the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS). Banknotes come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 Cedis, while coins are available in 1 and 2 Cedis, and smaller Pesewa units. Most local businesses prefer cash, especially outside major cities. You can exchange foreign currency (mainly USD, EUR, GBP) at banks or licensed forex bureaus. Credit and debit cards are accepted in hotels, malls, and some restaurants in larger cities like Accra, but it’s always best to carry cash for everyday purchases.
